Mark Haddon is the sole resident of Pabbay, one of the most southerly islands in the Outer Hebrides, where he lives in three converted farm buildings dating from the late eighteenth century. Travel to Pabbay in a small boat can be arranged through Don McKeown who runs the Heishival Mòr guesthouse in Castle Bay. The journey across the Sound of Sandray can be treacherous, however, and Mr Haddon is often not at home.
